Transforming the Arts for ID Artists

We recently attended the launch of Irish Theatre Institute’s new research report – Amplify: A Call for Transformative Action – as part of the SafeToCreate programme, which captures the voice of intellectually disabled artists, examining the barriers they face. As a consultant organisation, we were not surprised at some of the stark findings that illustrate the inequalities faced by ID artists today.
AMPLIFY presents the findings of a comprehensive research programme, designed to shed light on the lived experiences of disabled, LGBTQIA+, and ethnically diverse artists and arts workers in Ireland. A strand of the research focused specifically on surveying ID artists, family members/connections of ID artists, ID arts organisations and arts workers who facilitate arts projects with ID artists.
We see this publication as another important step toward addressing and dismantling sectoral and systemic discrimination.
